Up and coming recording solo artist Justin Unger, best known for his time as a member of the group Across The Sky, has a new debut project, Disengage, on out now through Heights Music Group.
Through his new release, on which all songs were written or co-written by Justin, the newly-signed artist reveals a theme of living for more than just “yourself,” woven throughout his project. Justin describes the engaging upbeat title track and debut single, “Disengage” as “the irony of the Christian life: the more you disengage from yourself, the more you find yourself. And the ‘self’ you find in Christ surpasses all that the world has to offer.”
Disengage showcases Unger’s musicianship, depthful lyrics and vocal talent through a deeply personal, yet relatable project, reminiscent of some of music’s most beloved and highly respected music driven projects. Nashville based ONdo Entertainment, headed by industry veteran Mark Lusk will develop and execute the marketing campaign for Justin’s project, in addition to the entire Heights Music Group roster. Cornerstones of the campaign include strong street week promotions, broad radio exposure for the music, retail positioning and a uniquely developed interactive online effort.
The project, produced by Greg Bieck (Destiny’s Child, Jennifer Lopez, Little Big Town), and mixed by Patrick Thrasher (Rush, Matchbox 20, Christina Aguilera) features a piano-driven style complemented by edgy guitar and pensive moments of reflection combined with lyrics that touch the listener’s soul and draws in the mind and heart. With “I Will Go Before,”touches those who havesuffered rejection or isolation because faith and tunes such as “Take Me Back” reach out to the soul who understands the feeling of being lost and running
Justin says his own life’s journey was the inspiration for most of the lyrics. “This record is a reflection of all the seasons that the Lord has brought me through so far,” he says. “I don’t think anyone could listen to this whole album and not relate to at least one song. Personally, the chorus that hits me the hardest is in ‘Behold.’ When I feel so small and insignificant in this world, I remember that the King of Glory is actually there for me. That’s amazing.”
In addition to his new release, Justin was formerly part of the duo known as “Across the Sky.” The group’s first single “Found by You” made it to the top 5 on Billboard, R & R and CRW charts. "Broken World" and "Give it all Away" were released as singles and received airplay in the US and internationally at radio stations in Australia, Canada, South America and Europe. “Across the Sky” was also Dove Award nominated for new artist of the year in 2004.
While with Across the Sky, Justin and the band toured with Mark Schultz, Avalon, Downhere, By the Tree, MercyMe and Nate Sallie. Across the Sky also opened for Michael W. Smith in Kentucky in 2003 at the Cardinals Stadium.
Feeling called to a different aspect of ministry, Justin expanded his career to include the title of “Worship Pastor” at The Heights Church in Prescott, Arizona.
Justin says, "I never dreamed that God would call me to be a worship pastor at a church, but I’ve never been as impacted as I have by leading a body of believers in worship weekly. Interacting one-on-one with people has helped me understand the ministry of the music industry, and my songwriting inspiration has never been so strong. They’re real people out there. Whether in concert or at home, I get to minister to them face to face." |
