Brennan, Moya Print E-mail

MoyaIf you like Enya, that ethereal, best-selling Irish lass who continues to pump out disc after disc of lush, heavenly music that seems to connect with millions of souls worldwide, then check out her sister, Moya Brennan, who does a similar thing, but specifically directed toward the Christian music market.

Moya has a new album that continues to push the boundaries. It’s called Signature, and portrays her experiences through a collection of twelve superb and personally introspective tracks.

Musically sharp and finely tuned, the album cleverly treads a fine line between the contemporary and the traditional while Moya emerges, showcasing her talent as a skilled songwriter with a global ear.

In true Irish tradition, many of the songs have an unmistakingly bittersweet flavor, making this project no rose-tinted retrospective. Signature encompasses a series of snapshots of Moya’s life, with each chosen moment launching a lyrical reflection, which, when woven together, produce a tapestry of contrasting colors and emotions.

Moya’s personal life offers plenty of scope for such material and she approaches the project with honesty and integrity. As one of the most alluring voices around today, from song to song Moya takes the listener on a rocky road toward a place of beauty, hope and encouragement.

Having been feted by a generation as the lead singer of Clannad, Moya’s life has witnessed plenty of highs. She remains one of Ireland’s most respected cultural icons, having had her music grace international film soundtracks (most recently with ‘King Arthur’) as well as Christian recordings, several television series and even dance anthems.

As Signature makes clear, Moya’s life is not void of hardships and difficult times. Tracks like “Black Night” and “No One Talks” approach the subject matter with honesty and clarity, drawing the listener in alongside the singer as only Moya can do.

“When I share things about my life with people I am sometimes amazed at the reaction,” says Moya. “I have been really moved in the way that my experiences have brought encouragement to others. Even though we can all feel broken at times, we can all be put back together again. I felt that translating some of that into song was a natural progression. I am what I am and here it is!”

Fans of Celtic music who’ve never heard of Moya Brennan need to get her new CD, Signature. You won’t be disappointed.
