Trent, Tammy Print E-mail

Tammy Trent lost her husband in a tragic diving accident in 2001, right around the time when terrorists blew up the World Trade Center buildings. Can you imagine what she must have felt like? She could have become bitter and written off her faith, but Trent bounced back and became better, with a stronger faith anchored in Christ. Here she talks about her music, her career, and her life…

Q) Describe your sound.
I think my sound has always had a very pop/R&B feel.  I'm very melody driven, ya know…something that stays with you all day and drives you crazy! (Smile.) And since I’m a drummer, I think it's natural that my tracks would have a bit of a groove appeal.   But don't get me started on worship. There is nothing like a worship song that you can get caught up in. Just you and Jesus alone in a room…at that time my sound becomes His sound.
Q) What are some of the themes your music conveys?
My music has always conveyed faith and putting our trust in something that is believable and lasting. This new project of mine, "I See Beautiful" doesn't disappoint on the faith factor, but there is certainly a resounding theme of hope this time around. I have had to cling onto deep hope in Christ since the tragic death of my husband in September 2001, so I wanted to share that journey with my listeners now.
Q) Since the death of your husband, Tammy Trenthave you dated and/or been in love with another man? Are you in the mood to marry again?
No, no, no! I have no interest in dating or being in a relationship, even five years later.  My life is very complete and I have been on a great adventure with Jesus. I'm totally fulfilled right now in my life.
Q) Who is your audience?
Well, when I'm at a Women of Faith conference, in front of 15,000 women, I'd say it's women! (Laughing.) And when I'm at the Revolve Tour in front of 9,000 teen girls, I'd say it's teen girls! (Laughing.) But, then again, we can't exclude the entire family when I'm ministering in a church service on any given Sunday morning. My audience is broken people who need to know they're not alone and that God can restore and heal and breathe new life into us and change our circumstances.
Q) In concert, what song of yours gets the biggest reaction and why?
Right now, it's my song "Pray," off my new CD. I think because it comes at the end of the night, after I've shared my story of love and loss, and then you see this spirit within me come to life in front of you eyes. It's the spirit of dance for me! (Smile.) I think it's so important to show people that you can move past your circumstances. I am, even though it can be hard, but more than speak about it, I show them the freedom I have in Christ, through dancing. And for some reason, it brings the house down at Women of Faith and Revolve Tour concerts.
Q) Who is your biggest musical influence?
Amy Grant, since I was 9-years-old. And, oh my goodness, she gave me her cell phone number a year ago! I'm still freaking out! (Laughing.)
Q) What do you think of Jesus?
What can I say? He's the reason I live!
Q) What gets on your nerves?
Pushy, loud, disrespectful people that try to take advance of others!
Q) When you have bad days, what keeps you going, pressing on?
My family and my friends and knowing that ‘this too shall pass.’
Q) Where do you live and what is your church situation?
I live in Nashville and attend Bethel World Outreach, with its amazing worship service and fantastic teaching.
Q) If someone wants to pray for you, what should they pray about?
For God's will to be done in me... To always use wisdom when letting people into my world. And for strength, comfort and for continued healing.
