Consonance Print E-mail
ImageFor those of you who like the classic doo-wop vocal harmony sound put together with Gospel music, you need to know about the vocal group known as Consonance, who have a CD, "See The Light," on CDBaby.com.

With a mission to lift up the name of Jesus in song and in praise, Consonance has been together as a group since 1995, and they've gotten to know each other so well that it's evident they sing as if they were actual brothers from the same mother.

The group consists of five members - Rev. Sam Cox, Paul Foster, Jr., Bobby Reed, Rev. Melvin Williams and Mack Williams.

Rev. Cox is a licensed minister and has played drums for Marvin Gaye, the Jacksons and the Eagles. He is also a lead singer with a style that is unique and inspiring.

Paul Foster, Jr. is the son of the legendary Paul Foster, Sr., who with Sam Cooke, were the lead singers for the Soul Stirrers. Paul also was a member of the 1970's group The Brothers and Others. This group recorded for RCA and were well-known throughout the college scene in California.

Bobby Reed is the bass player and a lead singer. He was the frontman for The Right Kind who in the 1970's were known for their hit single, "Why Do You Have To Lie?" Bobby also has played backup for B.B. King, Albert King and others.

Rev. Melvin Williams is a licensed minister and was formerly with the Pacesetters. They recorded with Tamala records and performed in the 1970's with most of the popular acts of that day.
Mack Willams was a member of the Brothers and Others with Paul Foster, Jr. He was also the frontman for the Northern California funk band No Shame. Mack is also a prolific songwriter and arranger.

As you can see, these five gentlemen bring a lifetime of experience to both the stage and to their recordings.

Consonance loves performing live, and have had wonderful opportunities to take the Gospel message to both secular and church audiences. They've performed at the Monterey Blues Festival, the Pittsburg Heritage Festival, the City of San Francisco Juneteenth Festival, The Bay Area Blues Society Revue, the Marin City Blues Festival, the City of Richmond Juneteenth Festival, the AARP Convention in San Francisco, and at many banquets, weddings and private affairs.

The group's style has been described as contemporary gospel, but they also have the ability to resurrect the old time gospel traditional songs of yesterday, which audiences absolutely love. They are masters of tight harmonies and have developed a creative approach to their presentation of praise in song. If you like artists like the Canton Spirituals, the Blind Boys of Alabama, or Boyz II Men, you should get a hold of Consonance's CD, "See The Light," and then be on the lookout for their two other projects releasing later in 2009.
