G-Fy-GWhat happens when a church gets its youth involved in a creative, artistic way? The kids use their God-given talents and giftings to bless others. In most cases, the blessings go to members of their particular faith community, or their neighborhood. Then, once in a great while, the fruit of young people's labor gets shared with the world at large-- such is the case with G-Fy-G, a high energy, urban contemporary Gospel singing group comprised of youth and young adults ages 16-25, mostly African-American and Caribbean-born, from the Greater New York City region. Vocal excellence, movement, precision, synchronization, versatility, and stage presence are the group’s strength-- other choirs will most likely be covering their tunes and trying to keep up with the vocal gymnastics of songs like "Let Everything That Has Breath" on G-Fy-G's Harambee Records' debut, "I Came To Glorify."

The group G-Fy-G is credited with transforming the lives and futures of countless inner-city teens. As a result of the discipline and structure associated with the performing arts, confidence building, and leadership enhancement opportunities, these youth have become leaders in their communities, they have overcome the lure of drugs and gangs, attended college, and are mentors to younger children.

Known for consistent excellence, musical versatility, and cutting-edge creativity and choreography, they are now branded as the hottest new group in the Gospel genre in the New York Tri-State area. Their accomplishments in the past few years have included: Pathmark National Gospel Choir Competition (2002), McDonald’s Gospel Fest (2003) and (2005) and a feature performance at the Six Flags Gospel Jamboree. G-Fy-G has been showcased on the following media outlets: UPN9, NBC’s “Today Show”, WB11’s “Morning Show” and “Bobby Jones Gospel Explosion”, as well as featured in leading national gospel magazine “Gospel Today”.

Members of G-Fy-G have shared the stage with countless performance luminaries, including Richard Smallwood, Hezekiah Walker, and Vickie Winans. Accompanying their musical abilities, the members of G-Fy-G are gifted and well versed motivational speakers, bringing powerful messages to youth and imploring them to rekindle the passion they have for life and God.

Establishing themselves as a positive solution for youth in the local church community as well as accomplished artists and performers, G-Fy-G is ready to bring their unique sound, inspiration and anointed vocal abilities to the world by means of their first recording.

“I Came To Glorify," the group's first release, is jam packed with a diverse musical stew of songs, incorporating girls who belt out diva-worthy notes, guys who rap, intense drumming, and a general feeling of love injected into the entire project.

Appealing to all ages, "I Came To Glorify" has songs for everyone: "I'll Be Good" is an R&B song of empowerment and encouragement with smooth male vocals reassuring the listener that they'll make it "through the pain," followed by a rap, and then a woman belting out that "you can make it" toward the end of the song. "Praise" will remind people of Beyonce or Kiki Sheard's singing style, coupled with a thick beat appealing to young ladies. For Caribbean music fans, don't miss "Jesus Is A Rock" with its island flavor and a very smart use of the choir-- their male and female voices will remind you of waves going up and down in the ocean. If you've seen The Lion King musical, "Jesus Is The Rock" sounds like something from that-- you can't help but shake your hips to this tune and want to smile. The choir shows off its impeccable skills on "Hallelujah Is The Highest Praise," which sounds as if angels are singing for you. "His Garment" sounds like spoken word set to music. "Daddy's Little Girl" has the hottest club beat on the disc-- this one belongs in clubs, with fierce female vocals, a male rapper, and an electronic beat just made for dancefloors. Its message is that girls don't have to give it up to the guy just because he wants to get some-- lots of young girls could use this as their anthem in this day and age when guys are pressuring girls into sexual situations they don't want to be in.

All in all, G-Fy-G is a talented, diverse group of young people who've made a modern day Gospel CD that will connect with lots of people around the world. Buy "I Came To Glorify" on CDBaby.com. Choir directors will especially want to check this group out to discover new songs for their choirs to sing-- if their choirs are ready to take it to the next level, that is!
