Johnny Juarez, a popular Canadian singer-songwriter currently living in Buffalo, New York, just walked 100 miles from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Buffalo. Juarez's "100 Mile Walk 4 Life: 3 days, 2 countries, 1 purpose,” was to help raise awareness about poverty's devastating effects on children around the world. Juarez has set-up online links at his website, http://www.johnnyjuarez.com/charity.html, for both Canadians and Americans to sponsor children in need through World Vision, a humanitarian organization providing relief to the poor worldwide.
Juarez, popular with Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide, recently released his first English language album, Here I Go. In addition, he moved from Canada to the United States with his wife and young children, and, most recently, began walking to lose weight. Having already lost 50 pounds and 4 inches off his waist, the singer-songwriter, who has been compared to Jon Secada and Michael Buble, says the walk was a once in a lifetime kind of thing. His feet are sore from hours and hours of pounding the pavement.
“I am very fortunate to live where I live and do what I do, and I've noticed there are way too many young kids dying around the world because they lack the very basic foods you and I eat every day,” says Juarez. “Go to my website and sponsor a child through World Vision-- your support literally makes the difference between life and death for these kids.”
Juarez, who just won a 2008 Maja Award for his recent CD, will soon be traveling to Spain, Puerto Rico, and then across Canada on his “Here I Go” tour. He is hoping at least 100 children get sponsored because of his 100 Mile Walk 4 Life and upcoming concerts.
