Jon Abel goes 'back to you' Print E-mail

With over 10,000 albums sold independently, a 5-star review from ChristianMusicToday.com, and a song on both Chris Tomlin’s See The Morning and Passion: Everything Glorious albums, singer/songwriter Jon Abel’s success story is quite apparent.  With his latest release Back To You, Abel continues to show why he is an artist to watch.

Jon AbelProduced and co-written by Cary Pierce (Chris Tomlin, Jack Ingram, Graham Colton) Back to You features an amazing list of musicians including: Tommy B (Switchfoot, Prince) on keys, Dan Needham (Chris Tomlin, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith) on drums, Mark Hill (Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood) on bass, Sean Hurley (Alicia Keys, Robin Thicke, Vertical Horizon) on bass, and Aaron Sands (Jars of Clay) was the main bass player on the record.  Back to You is a worshipful collection of songs that remind us that no matter what we do, we can always go back to God.

An interesting layer that weaves itself into the mosaic of Jon Abel’s life story is that of his family.  Jon’s father, Thomas Abel, was a Trappist monk for nearly 20 years. In 1966 he met Jon’s mother, Mary Ann, who also happened to be a nun at a neighboring convent where she worked as a schoolteacher. After Thomas and Mary Ann met they began corresponding and quickly realized that life would be better spent together than a part.   They abandoned their vows to wed and had five children, of which Jon is the middle child.

Most Sunday mornings Abel can be found leading worship at Highland Park Presbyterian’s “1105” gathering in Dallas, TX in addition to performing various concerts and events nationwide. As a songwriter for Universal/Brentwood Benson Music, Abel has also collaborated with some of today’s biggest writers in Christian music including Cary Pierce, Chad Cates (Casting Crowns), Don Chaffer (Todd Snider, Waterdeep) Brandon Heath and Ronnie Freeman.

Abel recently signed on with Dryve Artist Management and Monday Night Music.  Questions can be directed to Aaron Adelsberger at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . More information and song samples can be found at www.jonabel.com.
