DeWayne Woods: Stellar winner Print E-mail

On January 12th, DeWayne Woods' peers awarded him three Stellar Awards: New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Urban/Inspirational Single/Performance of the Year. In addition, P.J. Morton, writer of DeWayne’s megahit “Let Go”, walked away with a 2008 Stellar Award for Song Of The Year.

DeWayne WoodsProduced by Central City Productions, the 23rd Annual Stellar Awards were hosted by Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans and Byron Cage.  In addition to winning, Woods also performed his signature song on the telecast which will air nationwide.

Nominated for five 2008 Stellar Awards – the gospel music industry’s version of the GRAMMY Award – DeWayne Woods completed a feat few new artists have.  Woods is thrilled about the honor. 

“2007 was a year full of some achievements and some disappointments, but these Stellar Award wins are a reminder that our labor was not in vain,” says Woods. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  It's an honor to know that this ministry has impacted so many lives, and I'm looking forward to continuing to spread this message of hope, healing and inspiration with the world at even a greater level in the years to come!"

Formerly a singer with John P. Kee’s New Life Choir and more recently as a member of mentor Donald Lawrence and his Tri-City Singers, DeWayne has been receiving rave reviews for “Let Go”, a song that became one of 2007’s biggest radio hits. The song peaked at the #4 spot on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs Chart and his debut release, Introducing DeWayne Woods & When Singers Meet, reached #5 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart. In addition to his musical successes, Woods won the hearts of many with his testimony of complete healing from HIV.
