Chris holding Paige Recording artist Chris Dickson has something to sing about. Imagine if you had an illness that meant you could not have children. Think about how devastating that would be. Then imagine that illness went away, and you were able to have children. Chris is someone who thanks God for a miracle like that.
Chris was told by his doctors that he'd never be able to have kids of his own because of a pituitary tumor, but he's got two kids now, and he and his wife couldn't be happier.
“After receiving prayer and believing that God was going to heal me, the pituitary tumor miraculously disappeared,” he says. “Although the tumor itself was gone, the effects of the tumor were still present. I trusted in God for complete healing and one year later we were pregnant with our first daughter, Jenna.”
Recently, little Paige was born, so Chris has been staying up late at night while his newborn baby cries and the role of attentive father is something he cherishes, especially when he wasn't sure, for years, that he'd ever be a dad.
Fatherhood has been rewarding for Chris.
“I love seeing the excitement in my daughters' eyes when I come home at the end of the day and realizing the awesome privilege of loving these kids every day,” he says.
When Chris isn't helping his wife take care of the kids, he's busy as a musician, singer, and songwriter. In college, he majored in “Clarinet,” but ultimately, as a recording artist, he focused on the guitar and playing percussion. With the support of his label, Hallel Music, Chris recently released his first CD, “Hold On To You,” a pop-rock recording he thinks would appeal to those who like Jeremy Camp, Vertical Horizon, and Third Day.
So how did he come up with the title “Hold On To You?”
“I thought it summed up where I was at in my life during the writing of the album,” he says. “Through everything, that was the basic idea that kept me going.”
The “You” refers to Jesus Christ, and Chris' relationship with Him has been a blessing.
“Walking with Christ and seeing how much He cares for me has made me realize that there is no greater love out there,” he says. “Having the opportunity to share this relationship I have with others is a great privilege.”
Some of the songs on “Hold On To You” have titles that will help you understand where Chris' music is coming from thematically: “On My Knees,” “A Moment With You,” “Can You Hear Me,” “You Are My God,” and “Lift Me Up” all point to Jesus Christ as relevant, omnipotent, and needed.
“I just hope people are able to see Christ through the songs and my sincerity about my relationship with Him,” he says. “My hope is that my sincerity about my circumstances will attract others who are walking through their own life adventures.”
Chris' biggest adventure in life-- having kids—was preceded by a time of depression when he almost lost hope, something many of us can relate to.
“Depression is real and it hurts,” he says. “It's so bad because it can be caused by physical and spiritual factors. If you are depressed, go to a good Bible-believing church where they can connect you with a group of people who can pray for you and encourage you. I'd also encourage you to read God's Word to find out who God truly says He is and how you can better know His compassion and power.”
So what are Chris Dickson's plans for the immediate future?
“I plan on staying at the Lord's feet and seeing where He's going to take me,” he says. “I'm ready to share my experiences with anyone who He puts in my path and excited to see where that will lead me.” |
