Paige Strackman helps feed hungry children Print E-mail
Articles
There's a wonderful gospel singer from Brooklyn, NY named Paige Strackman, who has sung with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and has a CD coming out in December. She learned about the plight of malnourished children from a friend who runs a feeding center in Haiti and became so moved to help that she and her three daughters set up a lemonade stand to raise some money. Well they raised enough to send some rice and beans for the kids at the center, but she wanted to do more.

Through her research she learned about a miracle product called Plumpy’Nut – a peanut-based, ready-to-eat food that is fortified with the right blend of nutrients so severely malnourished children can survive and thrive. She soon realized that even though this product exists, it wasn’t getting to all of the children who needed it. Then she got an idea. As an American Express Cardmember, she decided to nominate a project in the American Express Members Project campaign that if it won, would bring $1.5 million dollars worth of Plumpy’Nut and other nutritional & medical care to malnourished children around the world.

G-Fy-G Print E-mail
Articles

G-Fy-GWhat happens when a church gets its youth involved in a creative, artistic way? The kids use their God-given talents and giftings to bless others. In most cases, the blessings go to members of their particular faith community, or their neighborhood. Then, once in a great while, the fruit of young people's labor gets shared with the world at large-- such is the case with G-Fy-G, a high energy, urban contemporary Gospel singing group comprised of youth and young adults ages 16-25, mostly African-American and Caribbean-born, from the Greater New York City region. Vocal excellence, movement, precision, synchronization, versatility, and stage presence are the group’s strength-- other choirs will most likely be covering their tunes and trying to keep up with the vocal gymnastics of songs like "Let Everything That Has Breath" on G-Fy-G's Harambee Records' debut, "I Came To Glorify."

Performance Tips Print E-mail
Articles
If you ask most Christian singers, musicians, or bands what they do, they will almost always say, "I am not a performer and I did not come to entertain," followed by, "I am worshipper and I came to minister." While the latter may be true theoretically, the former definitely needs consideration, because you are indeed a performer and it's not a sin to be entertaining while you're up on that stage or altar. Too often, performances are, frankly, sub-par or boring these days. If you want to be the best, you need to read the tips that follow.
