Keith Lancaster started the group Acappella almost three decades ago, and while the line-up has changed over the years many times, he's still taking an active role in overseeing the group of young men who sing for the Lord at churches and events all over the USA. Interestingly, Anthony Lancaster, Keith's son, currently sings with the group, handling the baritone part. If you don't have an Acappella CD yet, get "Heaven and Earth" or "Radiance." |

Dove City recording artist Alice E recently made it to #5 on the Euro Christian Music Charts with her new CD, "Love In The Spirit." The album has been climbing the charts in Europe since September, aided by the strength of two radio singles, "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" and "Lord I Do Your Will."
Alice E's soulful, soothing urban sound has proven popular in several European countries, including Scotland, Germany, Ireland, England, Belgium, and The Netherlands, among others.
Alice E began her career as a commercial jingle and backup singer, recording with or behind Natalie Cole, Bryan Duncan, Nancy Wilson, Lionel Richie, Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire), and Curtis Mayfield. It was Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler who were the first celebrities in Chicago to notice Alice's vocal talent, giving her that "first big break" she needed in her career as a singer. |

As certain as the days get shorter and night falls sooner, we begin to prepare for the holidays with music that reflects the tradition that is Christmas. With the release of Anne Murray’s Christmas Album, what better way to embrace the wonderment of the season than with the fireside warmth of this classic singer performing timeless classics. The classic collection is complete with the addition of magical duets with multi-Platinum artist Michael Bublé on “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and a bonus track of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, with Grammy Award winning jazz vocalist, Diana Krall. The latter was originally recorded for a CBC Television special in 2001. The day of the taping, Murray and Krall decided to sing the carol as a duet. The end result was a new classic by two of the most distinctive voices in music today. |

Christian Music Daily: BarlowGirl, the critically-acclaimed three sister rock band, gears up for their highly anticipated fourth project on Fervent Records, Love & War. The album releases September 22, 2009 and once again teams BarlowGirl with renowned producer, Otto Price (GRITS, dcTalk).
Love & War focuses on the hope and passionate love we have for God while at the same time dealing with the struggles and difficulties of our Christian walk. But as BarlowGirl continues to remind us with their lyrical content, if we keep Christ at the center then our spiritual journey will be filled with grace and love.
“We wanted to paint a picture of the two extremes of being followers of Christ,” says BarlowGirl. “There is passion on both sides that deal with the love of God and people and the fight (war) for what’s right and to bring encouragement at the same time. The reason we fight is because of this flow of love and we need to wake up the church from its comfort zone. We wrote these songs to express the tender loving passion that we have as the basis of our relationship with Jesus, and about the difficult battles we all face as we walk out our faith in this world.” |

In Nashville, Tennessee, there’s a label used for a select group of musicians, vocalists, and instrumentalists—“First Call.” These are the ones a producer calls first for a recording project. They’re able to make a living by playing, singing, arranging and performing. First callers comprise a sliver of those who come to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or Nashville hoping to find a dream come true. With a great deal of fear and trembling, and a healthy dose of optimism Marty McCall, Melodie Tunney and myself named our trio “First Call” in hopes of getting those much prized phone calls for work. God blessed our naive, well-intentioned efforts. |

Two of the most talented and unique musicians in the Christian and mainstream genres, Dove nominated Burchfield Brothers, release their eleventh CD, Times and Seasons. The project features some of Jon and Ben Burchfield’s favorite songs from their previous albums and the CD is available on the duo’s website, www.burchfieldbrothers.com, and digitally online at iTunes.com.
“Times and Seasons can be compared to a diary spanning two decades,” explains Jon Burchfield. “The ‘times’ reflect life experiences and the ‘seasons’ are like the ever-changing chapters in our lives. Whether it’s ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ from Appalachia or ‘Laguna Lights’ from the west coast, each song evokes a memory from another time and place.” Times and Seasons showcases twelve eclectic selections that includes: “To Him Who Sits on the Throne,” “Amazing Grace,” “Be Thou My Vision,” “Doxology,” “Heart Of Mary” and “Sunset Coast.” Many of the songs were inspired by nature itself, being the perfect example of letting go of the old and embracing the new. The project is an instrumental collection of great hymns and timeless classics that features the multi-talented Burchfield Brothers playing guitar, marimba and Irish flutes. |

Charles Billingsley. Haven't heard that name in a while. He sort of disappeared from the national spotlight, didn't he? Turns out he has been busy as the worship leader for the 24,000 member Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. He's also been the Artist-in-Residence for 10,000 students at Liberty University.
Many of you remember Charles as the lead singer for the band NewSong. He had six #1 singles, and has been on TBN and The Inspiration Network. After a polyp on his left vocal cord almost stole his singing voice, Charles decided to record a live CD called "God of the Ages."
Charles' new CD is very well suited to megachurch going Southerners who like their music to be a blend of folk, soft rock and most notably, country. In some ways, you could sum up his style as Southern Gospel. Charles is one of the old school Christian singers who doesn't mind giving altar calls to see people get saved. As this is a live CD, Charles' spoken prayers for the congregation are included. He covers some classic church songs including "You're Worthy Of My Praise" and "Be Thou My Vision."
Musically, this CD doesn't break any new ground, but it is the solid kind of worship CD people who already love Christ will appreciate. --Mark Weber, ChristianMusicDaily.com |

Christian Music Daily: Powerhouse vocalist Coko, whom many of you remember from the secular girl group SWV, unveiled her new music video for her popular hit song "The Winner In Me" on BET's Video Gospel this January.
BET Video Gospel airs nationwide Sunday mornings at 11:00am EST / 10:00am CST. Interestingly, the show is on when most of y'all are in church! But thank God for "DVR's" and old school "VCR's," plus reruns!
The awesome ballad is the title track from Coko's chart-topping sophomore release THE WINNER IN ME. Coko has been able to move from the secular to Gospel music world and be accepted-- not an easy thing to do!
"The Winner In Me," is a song tailor made for today's times. Relating to everyone's circumstance, the song speaks encouragement and strength. By far it is Coko's most personal and favorite of songs. The song, written by Pastor Kerry A. Smith, Arthur Strong and her husband Michael Clemons, spoke exactly how she felt.
"I remember when I left SWV, I didn't know where I fit in and didn't know how to move forward ... but something pushed me forward. I realized there is a winner inside of me and His Name is Jesus," says the star.

For those of you who like the classic doo-wop vocal harmony sound put together with Gospel music, you need to know about the vocal group known as Consonance, who have a CD, "See The Light," on CDBaby.com.
With a mission to lift up the name of Jesus in song and in praise, Consonance has been together as a group since 1995, and they've gotten to know each other so well that it's evident they sing as if they were actual brothers from the same mother. The group consists of five members - Rev. Sam Cox, Paul Foster, Jr., Bobby Reed, Rev. Melvin Williams and Mack Williams.
Rev. Cox is a licensed minister and has played drums for Marvin Gaye, the Jacksons and the Eagles. He is also a lead singer with a style that is unique and inspiring.
Paul Foster, Jr. is the son of the legendary Paul Foster, Sr., who with Sam Cooke, were the lead singers for the Soul Stirrers. Paul also was a member of the 1970's group The Brothers and Others. This group recorded for RCA and were well-known throughout the college scene in California.
Bobby Reed is the bass player and a lead singer. He was the frontman for The Right Kind who in the 1970's were known for their hit single, "Why Do You Have To Lie?" Bobby also has played backup for B.B. King, Albert King and others. Rev. Melvin Williams is a licensed minister and was formerly with the Pacesetters. They recorded with Tamala records and performed in the 1970's with most of the popular acts of that day.
Mack Willams was a member of the Brothers and Others with Paul Foster, Jr. He was also the frontman for the Northern California funk band No Shame. Mack is also a prolific songwriter and arranger. As you can see, these five gentlemen bring a lifetime of experience to both the stage and to their recordings. Consonance loves performing live, and have had wonderful opportunities to take the Gospel message to both secular and church audiences. They've performed at the Monterey Blues Festival, the Pittsburg Heritage Festival, the City of San Francisco Juneteenth Festival, The Bay Area Blues Society Revue, the Marin City Blues Festival, the City of Richmond Juneteenth Festival, the AARP Convention in San Francisco, and at many banquets, weddings and private affairs.
The group's style has been described as contemporary gospel, but they also have the ability to resurrect the old time gospel traditional songs of yesterday, which audiences absolutely love. They are masters of tight harmonies and have developed a creative approach to their presentation of praise in song. If you like artists like the Canton Spirituals, the Blind Boys of Alabama, or Boyz II Men, you should get a hold of Consonance's CD, "See The Light," and then be on the lookout for their two other projects releasing later in 2009. Click here to hear the group and/or buy their CD through CDBaby.com. |

Cool Hand Luke is a punk rock band that got its start back in 1998 at Middle Tennessee State University. The band became known for playing with their backs to the crowd, employing lengthy, emotively expressive songs, along with deeply introspective lyrics. Today, Cool Hand Luke is gearing up for the release of their newest full-length album, "The Sleeping House", on Lujo Records. The album, produced by Matt Goldman and showing such diverse influences as Shudder to Think and Keane, is comprised of twelve piano-based songs of a depth, intensity, and relative darkness unseen before in Cool Hand Luke's work. The artwork-intensive album, complete with an enhanced CD, features comprehensive lyrics, explorations of each song, a music video, and in-depth exploration of the meanings contained within the decidedly cryptic artwork. The band has had an interesting journey-- their history reads like a good fiction novel. |

One of Christian music's premiere rock bands, Downhere, is poised to release a brand-new CD on September 23, 2008, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed, "Wide Eyed & Mystified" The new album features twelve new songs, plus the bonus track "How Many Kings" their 2007 hit. All of the songs on the CD were written by Marc Martel & Jason Germain and produced by Mark Hiemermann (DC Talk, MWS), Stephen Gause (Jars of Clay, Derek Webb) and Downhere.
Ending Is Beginning takes the listener to a deeper place in their faith as Downhere's band members, Jason Germain, Marc Martel, Glenn Lavender, and Jeremy Thiessen, speak candidly about how they're handling their struggles of life while also preparing for the triumph promised by their faith. If you visit their myspace page and hear "Here I Am," you'll hear a song ChristianMusicDaily.com calls, "a great song, reminding us of Rush of Fools 'Undo' and Building 429's 'Glory Defined.' Finally, Downhere has a song which could set them apart from all the other 4-piece white male Christian rock groups in Christian music. This 'Here I Am' song could easily become their signature song and up their status in the music industry. This band has been under-estimated for far too long. Their time is now." |

“Dreampilots simply have far more talent than most groups currently on the scene and their debut is, easily, one of the best rock albums released in the Christian market this year.” - Shawn McLaughlin, Christian Musician Magazine
"Rock 'n' roll snuck across U.S. borders with a Norwegian swagger....Future headline: 'Dreampilots Make Rock 'n' Roll Fans Dream Again.'" - Rob Vischer, CBNmusic.com
“Beginning to end, the guys in Dreampilots have created a sound that not only defies the current Scandinavian scene but the Nashville one as well. And therein lies in the beauty of Comedown. This is one of the few purchases worth every penny this year.” – Matt Conner, Soul-Audio.com
“Rock and Roll!! These boys are about to show American bands how its done.” – Carl Johnson, Greater Than Magazine |

If someone you loved was in the hospital, but you were seperated by a great distance, how could you still be there with them, to help them through their tough time? Piano player Dusty Knapp was miles away when he heard the news that his dad was in the hospital. Was it a heart attack? Dusty couldn't rush to his dad's side, since dad was in Upstate New York and Dusty was in Nashville. So he did the next best thing a piano playing son could do. He recorded a CD. If he couldn't be there in body, at least he could be there in spirit.
That CD, titled "Reflections of Worship," features Dusty's expressive, passionate piano playing. It's a beautifully arranged and performed mix of solo instrumental hymns, as well as praise and worship favorites, with a couple originals that will draw you closer to God, soothe your soul, and relax your mind. It helped Dusty's dad get out of the hospital sooner than expected, so if you know anyone who needs to relax and heal, "Reflections of Worship" will help them get through their toughest time. |

Christian Music Daily: Maybe El McMeen, the master guitarist, has “invented” a new recording genre: sit around in your PJ’s, get the urge to play some favorite tunes, turn on the recorder, pray that the result won't be a disaster, play guitar and chat with the listener in a one hour sitting, and send the result off to your recording engineer to touch up the sound, but without any editing that affects the spontaneity of the performance. The result may be the broadest range of music on any recording by El, as well as an unscripted personal conversation.
Tunes include: *In the Bleak Midwinter/Hyfrydol *Breakout *Song for Sheila *Bonaparte’s Retreat *Ashokan Farewell *Blarney Pilgrim *Turf Lodge *Precious Lord, Take My Hand *Long Gospel Medley: In the Garden/Precious Lord/Just a Closer Walk with Thee/What a Friend We Have in Jesus/Amazing Grace/More *Hymn Tune (Gloria) Theme from Mendelssohn Cantata (Hark).
The new CD is available here. If you like Eric Clapton, Phil Keaggy or Steve Bell, do not hesitate to buy this music. --Mark Weber, ChristianMusicDaily.com. |

Christian Music Daily's Mark Weber discovered the coolest artist on ReverbNation.com and decided to interview him. His name is Gavin Mart and he lives in Leeds, United Kingdom. His music is thoughtful, serene, gritty and mesmerizing-- ladies and gentleman this is one of those diamonds in the rough who once you hear you'll be hooked.
CMD- Who is Gavin Mart?
GM- Well without boring you too much, I’m a trained artist living in Leeds, UK. I’m married with no kids. I am lover of the arts and passionate about singer-songwriters who are able to tear themselves away from the mainstream and deliver the goods in an honest and craftsman-like fashion. I choose to live in an area of the city which is unpretentious, warm, poor, and honest; I hope that reflects in my work as a result. I prefer music that is meant to ‘say’ something rather than cream the ears-- although a combination of the two will double the delight.
CMD- I noticed Matt Redman was listed among your influences. He's known here in the States as one of the world's foremost writer of worship songs. What's your take on Christianity?
GM- I wouldn’t say Matt Redman was an influence; I’ve worked with him on several occasions, and even played drums for him. He fascinated me when I played with him. He had an intensity, an earnestness, and an honesty that I simply wasn’t expecting. Many of the other people I worked with at the time came across with a professional get-the-job-done attitude-- Matt was a breath of fresh air, the real deal; it stuck with me. You don’t have enough web space to hear my take on Christianity. I was raised in the church and was pioneered as a youth leader early in my teens. I was even invited down to Westminster at one point to share my opinions on faith with a load of Ministers of Parliament (government officials). Somehow the bubble burst for me and I found myself desperate to breathe and experience the world in my own fashion. I wanted to know what I really believed for myself. I ultimately found a depth of faith which I don’t think I could have found without going through that process. I thoroughly believe through my own experience that if you spend time with the poor you will get to meet Jesus. |

With their latest CD, GRITS tries to finally get some attention from the general Christian music fans, by employing the talents of Mac Powell, Dan Haseltine and other all-stars. Frankly, this duo is too good for Christians. They should just forget trying to appeal to the "Christian" market, and go as secular as possible, bringing the light of the Lord to regular hip-hop fans, not just holy hip-hop fans. But that's a debate for another day... |

Who is Tre9? Here is what the intriguing rapper said, answering that question from ChristianMusicDaily.com:
"I'm a hip hop missionary from Houston, Texas who loves God and people. I grew up in the hip hop culture in an inner city neighborhood simply known as the Northside. I loved the hip hop culture so much as a youth that I tried break dancing and DJing, but eventually settled on being a rapper. I guess I should mention graffiti art was never my thing. I used to go in the stores and pick out rap CDs that had the coolest looking CD covers. I enjoyed the most violent and sexually explicit rap, as well as pop rap artists. My hip hop music shaped my attitude and character in so many ways. To make a long story short, I am very passionate about reaching the youth with the truth because I personally experienced how influential music can be on a young person's life. It makes me angry to know how Satan is using the most powerful evangelistic tool in existence, music, while Christianity places more emphasis on exposing sermons over the airwaves instead of youth oriented music such as hip hop. But, I will leave it at that for now." |

I'm Ok You're Ok is the name of a young pop-punk band that reminds me of Hawk Nelson. Their new CD is called "Presents..." and it's perfect for teenagers who like to go to clubs wearing black t-shirts and jeans and rock out. The mostly upbeat sounds of I'm Ok You're Ok seems tailor-made for MTV or VH1 reality show background music. The band's "Are We Alright Now?" should be on 90210 or Melrose Place or The Hills or The Real World. The band, which has a nice vocal blend ala Green Day, got their start at Los Angeles' Dream Center, serving inner-city poor people together. Though the album isn't overtly about Jesus, the end song, "Compromiser," finds lead singer Tyler giving his all, vocally, singing about the grace found in "His" love-- a powerful track sure to reasonate with people. Zach, Tyler, Anthony and Jeremy are your typical Southern California all-American boys who have taken the garage band sound and made it their own enough to secure the attention of label people who noticed teen girls would buy their albums. Fans of Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, and Underoath should appreciate I'm Ok You're Ok. Finally, it will be a travesty if I'm Ok You're Ok's "Party Song" doesn't become a smash hit-- this is a blazing hot rock record that is perfect for all sorts of parties and is THE track to download, peeps. --Mark Weber, ChristianMusicDaily.com |

As gospel music artists gathered in Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate the biggest and brightest at the 25th Stellar Awards recently, they also came together for a higher purpose. With the recent tragic earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Kirk Franklin assembled numerous award-winning gospel music artists in Nashville’s Quad Studios to lend their voices to “Are You Listening,” a song they all hope will inspire those devastated as well as raise much needed funds for Haiti. All proceeds from the record will be donated to charities involved in relief efforts.
Artists United for Haiti includes (listed in alphabetical order) Yolanda Adams; Jeremy Camp; Shirley Caesar; Dorinda Clark-Cole; Natalie Grant; Fred Hammond; Tamela & David Mann; Mary Mary; Donnie McClurkin; Bishop Paul S. Morton; J. Moss; Smokie Norful; Marvin Sapp; Karen Clark-Sheard; Kiera "KiKi" Sheard; BeBe Winans; CeCe Winans and Marvin Winans along with other gospel artists featured in choir including Shari Addison; Kathy Taylor Brown; John Gray; Bishop Darryl Hines; Stephen Hurd; Karima Kibble; Judith McAllister; Nicole C. Mullen; Jessica Reedy; The Neville Sisters; Troy Sneed; Micah Stampley; Melinda Watts and Brian Courtney Wilson.
While Gospel music has always been about spreading the good news, what Haiti needs most are funds and resources to help them rebuild and restore their communities. “All the artists associated with the project donated their talent and gifts for this project,” says song and project producer Kirk Franklin. “This initiative is so important because while we are asking America to give we know that many are giving sacrificially. The people of Haiti are very spiritual people with an unwavering faith and belief in God and still count The Lord as the main source and provider. We will continue to pray and stand with them. We hope this song will bring much needed support and awareness in an effort to raise funds in the near and long-term future.” |

If you watch American Idol this season, you've seen Danny Gokey, the church worship leader who lost his young wife tragically. Danny looks and sounds like Gospel artist Israel Houghton, so in case you don't know Israel Houghton, it's time you get to know him.
Multiple GRAMMY, Stellar and Dove Award winner, Soul Train Award winner and double RIAA certified Gold-selling artist Israel Houghton returns to his roots as a solo artist with The Power Of One. Releasing March 24, 2009 on Integrity Music/Columbia Records, the album features the youthful and musically masterful energy that has made Israel among the most highly influential tastemakers across a variety of musical genres. The album also features guest vocals from such genre-leading artists as tobyMac, Martin Smith of Delirious?, Mary Mary and Chevelle Franklin.
As a worship leader, singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Israel has written or co-written 11 CCLI (Church) Top 500 favorites, creating a canon of songs that have become standards in houses of faith around the globe. The Power of One, Israel’s first studio offering after a string of highly successful New Breed live concert projects, comes with a challenge to people of faith to be as impassioned and Christ-like in their earthly walk as humanly possible.
“If you look at our albums thematically, the early ones were about the church and what God is doing,” recalls Israel. “On the most recent records, our message has shifted into more social and global concerns, focusing on identity and the purpose of God in everyone’s life. I strongly believe that those of us who consider ourselves worshippers need to have a heart for social justice. ‘Power of One’ is the song we wrote specifically around that thought for this album.”
Interestingly, the anthemic, introspective title track was not originally intended to be recorded by Israel. “Two and a half years ago, I was asked to write a song for a mainstream artist who was looking for something based around a socially conscious idea,” explains Israel. “At that time I was just beginning to understand the connection between worship and justice, so this song came very quickly to me. I was about to send it to the artist’s manager when my wife Meleasa asked me to play it again. When I did she said, ‘Don’t you dare send that away! The time will soon come for you to sing that song.’ Now is that time.”
From its genre-blending roots reggae and heavy rock to sanctified funk and power pop, The Power of One features songs of hope, redemption and revelation. The songs benefited early on from Israel’s writing retreat with longtime collaborator Aaron Lindsey, whose credits include Shirley Caesar, Martha Munizzi, CeCe Winans and many more, and with Tommy Sims, whose writing, recording and performing credits range from Bruce Springstein and Garth Brooks to Bonnie Raitt and Kelly Clarkson.
“This is the first time I’ve entered into a project with no premeditation,” Israel says. “In the past I’d go into a project saying we need this kind of song here and that kind there - worrying if it would sell or if the Church would accept it. This time it was fun to go into creating a record with no rules and just do what was in our hearts...a very cathartic experience.”
Throwing out the rulebook, Israel was free to also invite some of his friends representing very different musical genres to join him on the record. Noted rapper tobyMac is featured on the rock song “You Found Me, while the powerful gospel ballad “Every Prayer” features Mary Mary. Well-known reggae vocalist Chevelle Franklin joins Israel on the Bob Marley influenced “Surely Goodness.” Chevelle also joins Israel and Delirious? frontman Martin Smith on the worshipful British-rocker, “Sing (Redemption’s Song).”
The difference between The Power of One as an Israel solo project verses a New Breed album is subtle.
“Most New Breed albums are done live,” says Israel. “This is a studio record so it has a different energy. I get to call on any and everybody for specific sessions. The biggest question is always who’s going to play drums. The first week I used Calvin Rogers [Smokie Norful, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams]. The second week we brought in Dan Needham [Amy Grant, Vanessa Williams, Michael McDonald]. And we used Lamar Carter [Ayiesha Woods, India.Arie, Out of Eden] on ‘Saved by Grace.’” Another special guest on the album is multi-instrumentalist Akil Thompson (son of drum master Chester Thompson from Weather Report and Genesis) who co-wrote “U R Loved” with Israel.
Writing or co-writing all the songs on the album, Israel creates music that breaks down barriers and defies categorization. Israel uses his own multi-cultural upbringing as a reference point with a desire to draw people of all races, ages and cultures together through worship. Israel laughingly describes himself as “black kid who grew up in a white family in a Hispanic neighborhood.”
Active as worship leader in his local church, Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, Houston, Israel has served as worship leader at Hillsong conferences, Franklin Graham crusades and is a featured CompassionArt songwriter and artist. Israel also ministers through concerts in the U.S. and around the world, including accompanying Alicia Keys at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards for a performance of George Michael's “Freedom '90,” and as a performer at the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards, taking part in a segment saluting Gospel music, alongside the likes of Aretha Franklin and BeBe Winans. In 2009, he's on a national major market, 37-city tour with Chris Tomlin. For the latest tour information, go to http://www.myspace.com/israelandnewbreedofficial.
In 1995, Israel and Meleasa Houghton founded New Breed Ministries, an organization they continue to run and that is comprised of noted musicians and singers who serve within their respective churches and together serve the Church at large. Since then, Israel has been featured on FOX, CBS, ABC, BET, TBN and CBN, and has amassed a legion of followers that crosses generational lines with popularity across African American, Latin and Caucasian listener lines. While blasting down barriers, he has been fittingly graced with 2 Gold-selling albums, 6 Dove Awards, 2 Stellar Awards, a Soul Train Award and 2 GRAMMY Awards, one for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album” for A Deeper Level and one for “Best Traditional Gospel Album” for Alive In South Africa. He also penned his first book with New Breed, A Deeper Level (Whitaker House), and wrote a chapter in the upcoming The Art of Compassion charity book.
Israel Houghton is signed to Integrity Music, distributed to Christian retail by Provident-Integrity Distribution and to the general market by Columbia Records/Sony-BMG Distribution. For more information, go to www.newbreedmusic.com.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, Israel is scheduled to be the headliner at Upstate NY's Kingdom Bound Christian music festival in Darien Center, NY, his first appearance at the festival--which attracts some 55,000 people over 4 days to a theme park between Buffalo and Rochester. Lucinda Moore is not a household name--yet--but she is definitely someone ChristianMusicDaily.com's Mark Weber likes. "Having interviewed her for ThePraiseHouse.com," says Weber, "I found her to be the kind of Gospel singer there needs to be more of: hard-working, coming from Connecticut where it's not as easy to be a Gospel singer as it is in Detroit or Atlanta, and then there's that 'Pressure Into Praise' song of hers-- her signature song that stuck in my head for, well, years now."
Tyscot Records’ Lucinda Moore will record her new CD and DVD Friday, July 18th – 7:00 PM EST at Elizabeth Baptist Church – 4245 Cascade Road, Atlanta, GA. Craig L. Oliver is the Pastor. Doors will open at 5:30 PM. The recording is free and open to the public. A special guest performance by Minister Wil Coleman, Greensboro, NC will take place just before Lucinda takes the stage. The recording will be released on Tyscot Records in Spring 2009. This live recording follows Lucinda’s previous self-titled 2006 LUCINDA MOORE CD yielding the hit "Pressure Into Praise." |

Melinda Watts, the season three winner of Gospel Music Channel's popular reality talent search series, Gospel Dream, will fulfill HER life long dream as she is set to release her new debut album this summer. Signed with Razor & Tie Entertainment for a worldwide multi-album deal, Watt's first project, PEOPLE GET READY, will be released nationwide on July 28th. Born in New Jersey and hailing from Sacramento, CA, Watts began singing at the age of six. Her powerhouse vocals and warm bravado have captured the hearts of millions of fans, when she won the American Idol-esque show. Influenced by legends CeCe Winans, Natalie Grant and Shirley Caesar, Melinda shares a love of music and her church.
PEOPLE GET READY is a bright and dynamic album that showcases Watts' vibrant vocals along with strong contemporary production. The celebratory first single, "So Good," has already made waves at Gospel radio and is upbeat pop track that absolutely defies you to get up and dance. Slick grooves, hopeful lyrics, and an exuberant vibe are interwoven throughout PEOPLE GET READY, which recalls other leading ladies of urban gospel like Mary Mary and Kierra Sheard. From the explosive, dance-friendly tracks of "Say Yes," and "Happy" to intimate worship songs like "Available To You," a duet with J. Moss, and wonderful rendition of "Faith," there is no doubt as to why Watts won over judges and audiences alike. Watts will be set out on a promotional tour this summer in support of the release with stops in New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia. She's already been chosen to tape an upcoming episode BET's "LIFT EVERY VOICE," and will be a part of the Gospel Music Channel's Gospel Dream 2009 season set to start airing in June.
"I've always had a love of music and I have been singing in church my whole life," Watts explains. "God's grace brought me here. A lot of faith in God and remembering that it's okay to dream even when you feel you can't." Watts, a former high school English teacher and active member of her Sacramento community, started the nonprofit organizations Project Sunday and Heaven's House to address the great need for mentoring and ministering to young women in her community. |

Christian music is, by far, the most difficult genre to understand and critique. In terms of a workable characterization, forget about it. When you have church choirs, Gospel songs, barbershop quartets, the southern rock of DecembeRadio and tobyMac’s hip-hop, it’s a style of music that’s beyond definition. |

After the huge success of the Dove Award winning Song of the Year, “Redeemer,” singer-songwriter Nicole C. Mullen has become a star on the rise, but she probably doesn’t consider herself to be that. She’s a mother, a wife, and an artist, but star? That’s not really her thing. She loves people. She wants to hear what they have to say. She loves to dance and teach kids how to dance. And she loves Jesus, and wants to share that love with others. |

New Zealand-based modern worship group the Parachute Band paints a new musical canvas with the release of Technicolor (Integrity Music) on September 30, offering up a dozen fresh new worship songs from some of the world’s best songwriters.
Technicolor is the follow-up to the 2007 critically-acclaimed Roadmaps and Revelations, which had marked the debut of the re-fashioned Parachute Band, made up of Omega Levine (vocals), Sam de Jong (drums), Rhys Machell (bass) Alister Wood (keyboards) and Simon Moore (guitars). Parachute Band, which has existed for more than a decade, was first created to host New Zealand’s annual Parachute Festival.
“Technicolor represents a concept we developed for this album which is ‘water equals life, equals colour’ - full blazing colour, when we live with God at our side,” says band member Sam de Jong. “As we were preparing for this album, we noticed that quite a few of the songs had an underlying theme of water or, God’s living water. For us this living water is God’s love, grace and mercy flooding and cleansing our lives as we worship Him.”
“This theme also ties in to our heart for social justice issues and in particular, our work with World Vision in Rwanda,” he continues. “In our travels we have seen places and people that are in desperate need of both physical water and God’s living water. As a band we feel challenged to put actions to our faith, as we are encouraged in Hebrews 13 to do, and use what’s in our hands and what we have been given to see lives changed.” |

The Newsboys are the elder statesmen of Christian rock, having toured for more than two decades now. They've had their share of ups and downs, and Lord knows they've had plenty of hit songs, like "Shine," which always manages to get people dancing on their feet. With an unusual mix of dance, techno, rock, disco, pop, and more, this band, which has always seemed like the Christian subculture's version of U2, has done pretty well for themselves over the years. It's a long way to the top when you want to rock'n'roll - and sometimes when you get there it's not quite what it seems. That's been the experience of Newsboys' frontman Peter Furler who told of how he had many times battled thoughts of wanting to do something else, despite achieving fame and fortune. |

A couple years ago, Christian record labels got bought up by corporate conglomerates who saw another revenue stream and wanted to take advantage of that. Philmont is a rock band that exemplifies how much Christian rock has changed since the days when bands would give altar calls and explicitly say the name of Jesus in their songs. Though they're on a "Christian label," and playing "Christian music festivals" like Ichthus and Sonshine, this band looks and sounds "mainstream" rather than "Christian." But enough about labels...
I like Philmont. I like that song #2 on their new CD has the longest title of any song I've seen in a long time: "To Say They Hit It Off Would Be An Understatement." I like that they combine disco, pop, rock, punk, and harmony into a well-concocted mixture of music. They're a talented, energetic bunch of young guys who have a penchant for writing engaging songs appealing to teenagers and watchers of MTV reality shows. |

Rand Winburn is doing something no one else is doing in Christian music-- meshing the synth-sound of 1980s new wave pop with new millenium dance beats and Christian lyrics. Odd? Sure, because no one else does this. Cool? Most definitely. In 2006, Winburn had it rough when his wife of 14 years became addicted to her prescription pain medications, went berserk, and threatened to kill him. Yikes! She was arrested, found guilty of domestic violence, and is permanently out of his life. This painful time in Winburn's life tested and fine-tuned his relationship with Jesus, and that, in turn, informed the writing and recording of his new CD, “Soul Seeker,” from Corgi Boy Records. You won't hear anything like this CD coming out of Nashville-- this is one of those diamond in the rough discs worth checkin'. |

Sister duo Elissa and Becca Leander, better known as The Sonflowerz, began their musical collaboration in church, while leading worship for their youth group. Eleven years later, The Sonflowerz are one of the most promising acts in Christian music. Their latest single, My Heart is Alive, is available now at iTunes.
"My Heart is Alive came together in a non-traditional way," says Becca. "We were in Nashville recording an interview with a station that had flown in from Holland, and they challenged us to write a song in one hour from text messages that they had received live while on the air."
"We really were inspired by one particular title," continues Elissa, "that reminded me of how Christ coming into our lives is the beginning of something new, something that changes our whole lives, and it just makes us come alive. So we got into the back room and Becca and I put together the first version of our song, My Heart is Alive, and played it live for Holland." |

Christian Music Daily: Longshot Records artist Staci Frenes begins a new year and a new decade fittingly: with a new single, Sweet Reunion, an infectious, acoustic/pop anthem with a new twist on an age-old message: hope. “This song is for those of us who feel like giving up on the things we once believed, because of unanswered questions, because of unhealed wounds, or because we fear that our hope is somehow in vain,” Frenes says of the song she wrote, which is the third radio single from her current album, Meteor Shower.
“A good friend of mine lost her husband unexpectedly; and for weeks I had no words that I thought could possibly convey the extent of my sorrow or wishes of comfort. I finally sent this song to her, hoping it would help in some small way. Her reply was, ‘Thank you for writing this…the words were so perfect, so right; as if you had written them directly to me and about my loss.”
For every tear you cried, for every question why/There’s gonna come a time When you don’t hope in vain, you won’t be ashamed/Someone knows your name And there’ll come a day of sweet reunion /Wait, when everything just aches To see face to face /There’ll come a day of sweet reunion
And while no one could have predicted the catastrophic loss experienced by so many in the recent Haiti tragedy, the song’s release and message of hope seem timely in its wake.
“In this life we get hints and guesses of what our eternal reunion with God will look like; but ultimately, this life is one of faith in what cannot yet be seen or fully known. Until then, we hope in the promise that one day, even the most painful and confusing mysteries will be understood, and we will see Him face to face.” |

Piano-driven rock/pop band STRIVE launches its first global release, FIRE, Aug. 26. Chicago-based STRIVE mixes the arena-friendly style of The Fray with an inspirational message akin to U2 and Switchfoot. The band’s members are genuine in their pursuit of crafting lyrics that are heartfelt and sounds that are uplifting.
“FIRE was written to inspire listeners to live lives which are selfless, seeking to make their communities a better place,” says STRIVE front man Derick Thompson, whose vocal resemblance could be described as akin to Josh Groban. “I’ve found that when I’m full of hope and excited about life, it spills out onto everyone around me. Same is true when I’m lost in my own self-pity, trying to make sense of the difficulty which is life. A choice had to be made whether to write a disc focused on the negatives or positives we all face. FIRE burns brightest when it’s surrounded by darkness. I hope this album burns bright.” |

Hailing from Niagara Falls, Ontario, where they got their start performing Gospel songs in front of a martini bar crowd on a weekly basis, NewWorldSon is the kind of band that manages to connect the Christian message with people who normally wouldn't set foot inside a church. Over 6,000 people have viewed this excellent article on ChristianMusicDaily.com, and with the release of NewWorldSon's newest concoction of PopGospelSoul, my guess is thousands more will; and seeing that all four members share their thoughts, this is one of the few places on the web to get so in-depth with the band-- doesn't hurt that ChristianMusicDaily.com's owner, Mark Weber, who owns over 4,000 CDs, counts NewWorldSon as his ALL TIME favorite band! :) |

When ChristianMusicDaily.com gets great music in the mail, you’ll know about it here online, and The Riverside Worship Project is one of those Christian bands well-worth sharing with you.
The Riverside Worship Project is a group of five college guys from Auburn University in Alabama. They make worship music that’s influenced musically by artists like John Mayer and Coldplay. What caught my eye in the band’s press release was this line: “The album opens with lead singer Steven Hale yelling at God ‘Are you here?’ and what follows can only be described as a musical tug-of-war between spirit and flesh, God and the devil.”
Don’t think all this group does is yell. Actually, there’s not too much yelling on their new release called “So Sing.” It’s not a hard rock album, and it’s not screamo. Instead, the sound would best be described as “what Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers would sound like if they were worshipping the Lord with their music.” I especially like band member Andrew McQuaig’s keyboard/synth work on songs like “Freedom,” where nothing’s ever overdone but just right. And while many of the songs are pretty mild, musically, the band does rock out on some songs, like the anthemic “May Love Reclaim This World.” Drummer Jason Hermansdorfer keeps the beat intense and the crunchy guitars courtesy of Brian Alpizar and lead singer Steven Hale, along with the pounding bassline by Ryan Campagna, will get your shoulders shaking. |

Much like Kutless and Sanctus Real, This Beautiful Republic is a band that combines modern rock sounds with lyrics expressing the need for a savior. On their ForeFront Records’ debut, Even Heroes Need A Parachute, the five-member band from Toledo, Ohio, captures both the questions and the feelings so many teens and twentysomethings have about where God fits into their lives. |

Here's something you don't normally see in contemporary Christian music: a former opera singer crossing over to the adult contemporary/pop style. Tim Juillet used to sing with various opera companies in Los Angeles, but now the happily married husband and father of two little girls is singing songs about Jesus on his new inspirational CD, Give Me Words. |

If you listened to Christian rock in the 1990s, dc Talk, a trio featuring Michael Tait, Kevin Max, and Toby McKeehan, Since going their own separate ways in the year 2000, each member has done their own thing, musically, with McKeehan, now known as tobyMac, having had the most success. While his driver’s license would indicate he’s over 40, if you listen to tobyMac’s new CD, Portable Sounds, you might think you’re listening to music made by someone in their twenties. It’s a blend of potent pop, rock, rap, and dance, as if Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, and OutKast morphed into one skinny, blue-eyed bundle of stylishly dressed energy known as tobyMac. |

Q) Your sound could be described as "Newsboys-meets-U2." When you worked (and work) with producers, what kind of input did and do you have for what the "sound" of Tree63 would be/is? |

Tonecrash Records and singer/songwriter, Tyrus Morgan, are pleased to announce that Sycamore, Morgan’s debut release for the label, is now available. The album can be purchased through online and digital outlets, as well as at Morgan’s shows and a few select independent stores.
“This is something I have been working toward for a long time,” says Morgan. “It feels good to finally have this record out. The feedback I’ve gotten so far has been very kind.”
Recently, Morgan performed through the entire album for a packed out room full of family, friends and the Spring Hill, TN community. East Nashville-based folk/pop artist, Flo Paris, opened the show and sponsor, Just Love Coffee Roasters, provided samples of their Fair Trade signature blend.
“I was so pleased with how this show turned out – From the crowd to the lights and sound, it all just made me smile!” Morgan explains. |

Vicki Yohe decided to record the song “He’s Been Faithful” after adopting her first child in March 2005. When she and her husband, Troy Hodges, were trying to decide what to name her recent CD, they agreed that “He’s Been Faithful” would be the perfect title.
“After being married for 9 years—no children—praying desperately that God would give us a baby,” she says, “my friend Darlene Bishop, from Ohio, who works with teen mothers, called me and said she’d have a baby for us in one week.” |

The Hardest Working Woman in Gospel, Vickie Winans, has overcome a lot since her last studio CD was released in 2006. Since that time, Winans’ beloved mother Mattie Bowman passed away and Winans departed from her longtime label Verity Records to launch her own Destiny Joy recording label. After surviving those trying times, Winans has rebounded triumphantly. “God has been good to me,” says the seven-time Grammy nominated singer. “I give Him all the praise. He’s stayed with me and held me up when I couldn’t hold up myself. There are so many great things happening that I just have to say that it’s because of God that I made it over.” Winans is back with new music, and fans couldn't be happier. |

Wanda Nero Butler screams and shouts her way through most of No Failure, her pretty intense new CD on Motor City Praise Records. Traditional Gospel enthusiasts as well as dance club goers will appreciate this wide variety of songs, which every now and then coincide with the beats and sounds we've come to love from contemporaries Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary.
Butler is best known as a stage actress, performing in a slew of productions over the years, including Evolution of the Blues, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Black Nativity, Why Good Girls Like Bad Boyz, and Angels in the House, among other plays and musicals. With such a dramatic voice-- the kind that could sing the phonebook and people would offer a standing ovation-- then it's no wonder and about time she offered music lovers an original CD to play in our houses, cars, workplaces, and churches.
Splitting her homebase between Detroit and Atlanta, Butler oftentimes has worked with and performed with other artists, like John P. Kee, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Vickie Winans, Angie Stone, The Clark Sisters, and Daryl Coley. In the black Gospel world, she's well respected and loved, but outside of that world, her name is not well known. Could No Failure change that? Possibly. A lot of her new material has crossover potential. |

We need more atheists turning to Christianity making music, because they seem so much more passionate about what they're singing about-- case in point: Wayne Caparas.
About twice a year, I discover a new artist for myself who is doing their own thing, which sounds like nothing else everybody else is doing, and this “new sound,” for me, is intoxicating. It's the kind of passionate, emotionally overwhelming, anointed-and-appointed music that comes along all too rarely these days, and on Wayne Caparas' “Gospel Project: Songs of Change,” I got that shiver through my soul I desperately long for. Caparas' music is honest, at times sensual (which most Christian music never allows itself to be), and musically diverse, complete with sax, fretless bass, and even some synthesizers used to good effect. |

From William Murphy, the songwriter of the certified hit single "Praise Is What I Do," comes a new song from a new CD, "The Sound," that speaks about racial reconciliation. "I Will Rejoice," featuring Nicole Binion, marks Murphy's continuous efforts to bridge segregation and prejudice in all areas of life.
"A part of my life's assignment is to purposely pursue racial and denominational reconciliation," explains Murphy. "With that at the forefront of the planning process for the recording of 'The Sound,' I invited my sister Nicole Binion to help me create 'the sound' of the Kingdom. This song reaches across both racial and denominational lines and pulls the listener into the presence of God before they realize what's happened."
Recorded before a live audience, "I Will Rejoice" is a heartfelt anthem coordinated brilliantly to defy the odds in a cold, segregated world. According to Murphy, "Nicole's voice is like fresh water and has the tendency to wash away the residue of yesterday and usher you into the new place."
"This song is sort of a follow up to my signature song, 'Praise Is What I Do,' but it releases something fresh and commands your soul to rejoice," says Murphy. "Nicole and I both impart the desire to enjoy the presence of the Lord without request." |
